Oru (2017), 22:00 This work combines a rhythmic, rigorous instrumental mosaic with a sequence of actions onstage in which the players take turns unravelling a large ball of yarn into a web-like pattern that gradually encloses the ensemble and ultimately wraps the conductor in a cocoon. From the work’s program note: “The anatomical structures that create lines and interstices on the wings of Bombyx mori and other lepidopterans are commonly referred to as veins, but they enclose tracheae and nerves in addition to channeling blood.” – Tim Page |
